A Pair of Arrests in the Aftermath of London Heathrow Irritant Spray Incident

The assault caused the temporary closure of the CTA tunnel and the Terminal 3 parking area.

Two more people are now in custody related to a theft at London's Heathrow Airport where 21 people sustained injuries by a substance believed to be an irritant spray, according to law enforcement.

A man, 24, was arrested in the Lambeth area for suspected theft and assault and a 23-year-old woman was detained on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery. They both are still being held, the force said.

The arrests come after an investigation into an assault at the multi-storey car park at Heathrow's Terminal 3 this past Sunday. Prior to the incident, a pair of female travelers had stolen from them their suitcases upon exiting a parking garage elevator.

A three-year-old girl was one of the those hurt during the incident. A total of five individuals went to hospital for medical care and have since been released.

Officers detained a man in his thirties for suspected robbery and assault close to the location. He was subsequently released pending further inquiries as the investigation proceeds.

Authorities were alerted at approximately 08:10 GMT following reports of a number of people hurt by a noxious substance thought to be pepper spray.

The attack - an event that police said was a standalone incident and not being treated as terrorism - caused delays to rail services and the temporary shutdown of the main airport tunnel and the Terminal 3 parking facility for a short time.
