Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it's natural for concerns to be raised about his future after another convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in 12 games, representing the team's poorest streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got significant backing from above,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to turn it around and earn three points naturally but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it's expected that people question you.”
He noted, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He added, “Through standard exchanges I sense the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Response
Slot highlighted recurring weaknesses from his team in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a period such as this with outcomes like these.”
He stated, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until it is gone, we'll continue to compete.”
“We’re going to try to help the side back to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the world.”
“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
