The speculation around this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The secret is finally answered. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team is likely building a real-time experience instead of another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it pioneered the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—elements that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs you can achieve by choosing a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously permissive, letting players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Most missions can be solved in multiple ways, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might find an answer because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a inventive way.
The Journey Continues
It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, players can get ready for a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
