Line of Duty Confirmed for 7th Series on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed police drama AC-12 is officially returning for its 7th season, announced by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-episode season written by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Belfast this spring, according to the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."
The last series wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that drew in over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been widespread for some time, but official word only arrived this week.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
The seventh season will open with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings remain working to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case so far."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.
Yet, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the background, the teaser suggested.
In a statement, the creator said: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had countless followers watch the developments of the unit over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be coming back for a seventh season."
He added: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston called being part of the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he said.
Vicky McClure stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is returning! Eager to work with Jed, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor noted: "While anticipating the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be working together next year."
"Pleased with the news and looking forward to those unexpected twists and turns."
Show History
The drama premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the last decade, attracting guest stars such as Stephen Graham.
The BBC haven't revealed exactly the new season will hit screens.
The conclusion of series six drew the long-running storyline about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a conclusion, and producers said at the time there were no intentions for additional seasons.
However, the corporation announced on Tuesday that a seventh series is now in development.
