The acclaimed police drama AC-12 is officially returning for its 7th season, announced by the broadcaster.

An upcoming six-episode season written by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Belfast this spring, according to the network.

The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."

The last series wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that drew in over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been widespread for some time, but official word only arrived this week.

The seventh season will open with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.

Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings remain working to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.

The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case so far."

An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.
