A popular South African radio and club DJ has been fatally gunned down in the country's largest city Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a nation grappling with entrenched crime.

Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was gunned down in the city centre on Tuesday afternoon.

Officials stated the 40-year-old media personality was accosted by three suspects, with one shot at him before running away.

The reason behind the incident remains unclear and no one has been arrested have taken place, according to authorities.

How It Happened

Police indicated that Stock was attacked as he was exiting a building in the vicinity of the city center landmark.

He had devoted time at the building supervising the implementation of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by unknown people, it was reported.

"The report indicates the victim was approached by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they began shooting at him before fleeing the scene on foot," authorities stated.

CCTV footage showed a man with dreadlocked hair and wearing what appeared to be a protective services outfit firing shots on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ tried to run away after he was wounded but succumbed to his injuries on the opposite side of the road.

Police added that Stock had an gun that was not fired and nothing was taken during the attack.
