The Fashion Icon Antony Price, Famed for Designing for David Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.

The British designer Antony Price, the visionary style architect responsible for many legendary styles favored by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and theatrical styles, most notably the pastel suits that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."

Price's death comes less than a month after he unveiled his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the famous black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in designing body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "true original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he started creating outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, such as several ensembles for her American tour after becoming Duchess.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.
