The Reform UK leader Claims Educators of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Racial Topics
The political figure stated that educators would initiate walkouts shortly after a Reform UK election victory, charging that they are “poisoning our kids” by instructing children that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
During an event for a Michigan-based religious institution, Farage outlined his perspective on the UK education system, claiming that the “Marxist left” had “taken over schooling”.
“I’m anticipating a teachers’ strike very quickly after winning the next general election,” he remarked during a Q&A session.
“They are poisoning our kids. They are telling them to be ashamed of their country. They are telling an eight-year-old black child that he is oppressed and a white child of the same age that he is a perpetrator. They are dividing us, not uniting us. They are feeding this harmful mindset.”
Reacting to these assertions, Daniel Kebede dismissed the idea that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “absurd”. He pointed out that industrial action must relate to educators’ working conditions, and doubted whether Reform would attack these right after taking office.
“Farage has built his public life on dog-whistle politics and currently, like Trump, he is targeting educators and their organizations for a fight,” the union leader said.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. I don’t – and nor does my union – push critical race theory as he’s suggesting … If he were to lead the government he would sell out our public services, including education … and he would be a disaster for education and children.”
Reform, which tops surveys by about 10 points, has provided limited specifics on a proposed education policy and does not appear to have appointed an education spokesperson.
However, his comments suggested the group would reform the educational framework. Farage declared: “We have got a massive job with schooling – absolutely herculean. And, it won’t happen quickly; it requires years, a long-term effort to reform.”
Farage expressed that younger generations are receptive to critical thinking, but older youth were “completely lost”.
Honoring a conservative activist, Farage said: “My goal for schooling is to foster independent thought – to instruct people that there are two points of view and they should decide for themselves as opposed to current practices where one is virtuous and one is evil. This is a huge undertaking in both Britain and America.”
Reform has previously clashed with a major educators’ organization, after Kebede called the party “extremist and prejudiced” and described the leader as “a cheap imitation”.
Farage has accused Kebede of being “a self-declared Marxist” … someone who is absolutely determined that our children should be poisoned through education, their minds should be poisoned about everything to do with this country” and maintained that the organization seeks to brainwash youth opposed to his party.
Roughly a million individuals are employed in education in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The leading teachers’ organization has hundreds of thousands of members.
National strikes over educators’ salaries and work environment in 2023 caused widespread disruption in schools and extensive missed instruction for students.
At the US event, the Reform leader also pledged to help spread the digital courses of the institution in the UK. He said such groups were “key to resistance”, noting: “I am serious. I’ll assist attract vast numbers of young people to your online courses. I make that commitment tonight and I’ll do that.”
The institution, a religious educational establishment, provides complimentary classes. Its website states: “Comprehensive learning is necessary for personal happiness and to maintain the benefits of freedom. It offers these excellent programs for no charge to every interested learner.”
