Triple National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Jokic sustained a "heartbreaking" knee injury while the Nuggets lost by a score of 147-123 at the Miami Heat.

The Serbian center sustained the injury in the latter stages of the opening half following an unintentional contact with fellow Nugget Jones.

His teammate landed on the footwear of the big man, who immediately collapsed to the ground clutching his knee.

The veteran player, that tops the league season in boards and dimes, had a score of 21 points and eight assists in the game prior to sustaining the setback.

He will have an scan on Tuesday to determine the seriousness of the issue.

"Instantly, Jokic knew something was wrong," commented Nuggets coach Adelman.

"Injuries are part of the game. Any player that is injured, it's gut-wrenching, particularly a player as important as he is. We will know more on Tuesday."

"The team will adjust together. Clearly, currently, I'm focused just about him as a person and the letdown of going through a situation of that nature."
